Market Animal Requirement - General
To be eligible to sell a market animal, exhibitors must be a member in good standing of a 4-H club or FFA chapter in Phelps County Exhibitors may be asked to provide membership standing verification at the time of the fair.
Each exhibitor must abide by the Missouri Department of Agriculture animal health standards for exhibiting. A valid health certificate for each animal must be provided upon arrival at the fair.
Each exhibitor may show two market animals of the same species but can only sell one.
Each exhibitor may only sell 2 species at the Phelps County Fair.
All species except poultry must be castrated at initial weigh-in.
Market Steers - Weigh in - February 20 at 8 AM-10 AM - Snelson Farms
We recommend a minimum of 600 lbs. at spring weigh-in.
Market steers must be born after January 1, 2009.
We recommend that your steer be born early spring of 2009
Market steers must be dehorned, castrated, broke to halter and manageable by spring weigh-in.
Market steers must weigh a minimum of 900 lbs. with average daily gain of 2lbs per day at final weigh-in for fair to be eligible for market sale. Steer may be shown but not sold if under this weight.
Market steers will be sold upon placing order at the fair.
Market Hogs - Weigh in - April 10 at 8 AM-10 AM - Fairgrounds
We recommend a weight between 40-100 lbs. at spring weigh-in.
Market hogs must weigh a minimum of 185 lbs. at final weigh-in for fair to be eligible for market sale. Hog may be shown but not sold if under this weight.
Market hogs will be sold upon placing order at the fair.
Market hogs may be either a barrow or gilt.
All market hogs weighed-in are expected to be harvested
Market Lambs - Weigh in - April 10 at 8 AM-10 AM - Fairgrounds
Market lambs must 70 lbs with average daily gain of 1/3lb. per day at final weigh-in for fair to be eligible for market sale
Market lambs must be born after January 1, 2010.
Market lambs must be wethers or ewes at initial weigh-in.
Market lambs will be sold upon placing order at the fair.
All lambs except wethers, must have a scrapies identification tag.
Market Goats - Weigh in - April 10 at 8 AM-10 AM - Fairgrounds
Market goats must be full or percentage meat goat under 1 year of age at sale time (milk teeth)
Market goats must be shown in the meat goat class.
Market goats will be sold upon placing order at the fair.
We recommend goats weigh at least 20 lbs. at initial weigh-in.
Market goats must achieve a minimum average daily gain of at least 1/2 lb per day by final fair weigh-in.
We recommend goats be dehorned.
Market goats must weigh a minimum of 50 lbs. to be sold.
Market Chickens
We recommend chickens be 6-8 weeks old when sold
Four chickens in a meat pen are considered one species.
Final weigh-in 7 PM on Wednesday, July 21 - All species
